Job Description

Our client a leading British dairy products company are seeking to recruit an Interim Safety Engineer (multi-skilled)  . Purpose of Job

To provide engineering proactive resource to the site, assisting maintenance engineers to deliver the site risk reduction strategy

Demonstrate ability to motivate other engineers, technicians, contractors and lead by good example during daily activities. Display an in depth knowledge of the plant

Organise and prioritise workloads and ensure production operations awareness of time scales and plant outages

Strive to seek areas of plant/safety improvements. Continue training to achieve highest level of site and plant skills, progress core skills as required

Take on a higher level of plant “ownership” within the process

Assist in the development of others, creating a positive team environment. Organise within team. Look for opportunities to gain experience and share expertise

Principal Accountabilities

By adhering to legislation, HS&E, site standards and engineering good practice, provide proactive engineering resource to the process, across areas including the main manufacturing site, the Water Treatment Plant, Energy centre, site services and facilities functions

Be proactive driving the safety agenda risk reduction improvements and remedial actions

Collaborate with key stakeholders on delivery of site safety capital projects by providing engineering expertise with a continuous improvement context

Work independently as well as part of a team, engage and manage contractors and permit activities through use of the company permit system and conduct contractor audits

Plan and organise workloads where required and ensure operational awareness of time scales and plant outages is maintained

Continue training to achieve highest level of site and plant skills, progress core skills as required

Knowledge & Experience Required

Computer literate and be able to operate PLC services equipment

Multi skilled trained to engineering standards, City & Guilds, HNC, ONC

Relevant single skilled engineer may be considered

Demonstrates practical engineering skills, enjoys a hands-on approach and has problem solving ability

Strong communication and presentation skills

Awareness and understanding of key safety legislative requirements within engineering field, such as electrical safety

  • Have IOSH qualification – preferred
  • Flexible and adapt to the variety of tasks
  • Work collaboratively with Key stakeholders on delivery of site safety projects
  • Have the capacity to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Have strong contractor management and permit writing skills
  • Auditing skills: an integral part of job and contractor control
  • Have the ability to work under pressure, multi task and self-accountable
  • Be confident to source and engage contractors and deliver projects to company standards whilst adhering to company procedures
  • Have broad understanding of site plant and processes
  • Will need to enjoy working in/out doors
  • Have flexible approach to working hours
